Four Generations of Fun

I love my family.

That’s one of the reasons I wanted to have a big one of my own.  It may be crazy, but it would be boring if it wasn’t!

This past week I was lucky enough to have my Mom (aka :: the infamous “Kiki”) in town while Travis was traveling.  And this past Sunday, we packed up the girls and headed to Monterey to visit my grandfather (aka :: “Pop-Pop”), Shereen (Pop-Pop’s wife, and for all intensive purposes, my grandma), Hilary (Shereen’s daughter), and Auntie Mickey (my Mom’s sister).

There were four generations of goofballs in one house (and let me tell you, taking pictures with 3 kids, 2 cameras, and a few crazy adults is TOUGH!).  It was an afternoon full of fun. We ate, we played, we danced, the girls did their jaguar routine for everyone, and when they weren’t being too loud, we talked (so let’s just say not a whole lot of talking occurred).

What I walked away with was the overwhelming feeling that it is SO COOL the girls know their great-grandparents. More than that, watching them bond with Pop-Pop took me back to when I was little. He’s still joking around in the same way, doing things to bug them, trying to steal their dessert, and being a goof – all the things I know and love about him.

And while I can’t put words in her mouth, I’m pretty sure my Mom walked away feeling similarly – that it is SO COOL knowing her kids and her grand-kids are fortunate enough to have a bond with her Dad. I can only hope our girls and their kids will have a similar experience. And I can only hope that we’re around long enough to see our great-grandkids and watch cartoons with them.

Travis and I have a wall of family pictures in our living room and underneath it we have a plaque that simply states, “Family is Everything.”  And while it may sound a little cheesy to some, I believe that phrase with all my heart.

Family is everything.

We are so fortunate to have the families we do. We are so lucky to have the kids we do. And as we approach our 5 year wedding anniversary later this week, I know Travis and I feel like we hit the jackpot when we met each other (although I don’t want to put words in his mouth either). 😉

I can’t wait to watch our family grow and I hope our great-grandkids have just as much fun with us as our girls have with Pop-Pop. Because really, how many people can say they had a ho-down with their great-grandfather?

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

    Such a wonderful, heart-warming post.

Ps, what camera do you use? I have the habit of just using my phone all the time, and while it’s great in a pinch, the memory fills up too fast. Either I need to clear the photos more often or start carrying a camera with me.

Hi Tiffany! I’ve been in a really bad habit of only using my phone as well, but for this particular trip, I brought my camera along. We have a Canon EOS 60D. Love it…we just need to take it in for a tune-up at some point. 🙂
