Some people thought we were nuts for taking both the girls to Mexico for a family vacation (because how relaxing can vacation really be when you’re traveling with two kids two and under?), but I think it was one of the best trips we’ve ever had.
The flights were easy (minus the two hour delay on the way home…that was a pain).
The girls traveled like champs.
The weather was perfect (as was the view from our room).
The resort was amazing.
The all-inclusive aspect was fantastic.
And quite honestly, it is just so fun and so fulfilling sharing experiences like this with not only your spouse, but with your kids as well. I’m all about trips away from the kids from time to time, but this particular adventure made me so excited about the many, many years of family vacations we have ahead of us.
Abby was a little sponge soaking up everything new and exciting about the experience, from the different highchairs to the milkshake-inspired “fruit smoothies” to the fish she fed on every trip to and from our room. She loved every ounce of being in the pool and even though it took five days, she finally wore the floaties Daddy got her at Walmart and loved the freedom of floating around the pool on her own.
Baby Mac (thankfully!) loved the water as well. She spent her days floating around with Mommy in the pool and lounging around on various chairs. As usual, she was perfectly content as long as she had her sister nearby. She went off her “diet” of only single veggies and breast milk and branched out by trying (and loving) bananas, guacamole, white rice, and I’m pretty sure she even had a few little nibbles of tortilla chips. She was loving it.
The time change was two hours and luckily the girls adjusted quite well and napped fantastically (I’m sure the sun and activity level contributed to that). I was able to request a suite that had two bathrooms so Mackenzie slept in the crib that we’d rolled into the second bathroom. She had her very own little “room.” Abby was lucky enough to have her own queen size bed next to Mommy & Daddy’s bed and we found ourselves playing musical beds each night depending on where Abby chose to hit the hay.
Two of the nights, Travis and I were able to go to dinner on our own (thanks to the on-site nanny service) which was really really nice because dining with two little kids three meals a day is exhausting!!! It was fantastic to have a couple date nights and the warm evenings were just perfect to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail.
It was all just absolutely fantastic and we’re already looking forward to our next vacation with the girls! Enjoy the rest of the slideshow below.
Happy short week!!!
