One of Abby’s favorite books these days is Go, Dog. Go! so when we’re out on walks and I’m pushing the Double BOB up a ridiculously steep hill, I have her chant “Go, Mommy. Go!” – shockingly enough, it helps. What can I say, any extra encouragement helps…even if I’m practically forcing her to support me in my efforts. Isn’t that one of the many awesome traits of children? They think you’re superheroes for no particular reason…I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty great.
Anyway, today’s been a day where Abby’s been supporting me and helping me in other ways…it’s like she knew I had 100 things to do and she decided that instead of chanting “Go, Mommy. Go!” out loud, she was silently helping me by playing perfectly with her toys, dealing with our grocery shopping experience, and “helping” me cook.
That’s right. At not even 2:00pm on a Tuesday afternoon, the girls and I have been to music class, we went grocery shopping, we managed to get Mac down for a nap without much trouble, we cleaned the apartment (including the dishes from last night and this morning and after-cooking-dishes), I made Chile Verde and it’s simmering in the oven (you must try this recipe!!!), I set the table (albeit, partially), I currently have two sleeping children, and I might even manage to shower (but sitting here seems much more appealing at the moment).
Go, Mommy. Go! is right…every once in a while a day like today is absolutely necessary to make you feel like the superhero your kids already think you are. It helps to balance out all the other days where you feeling like you’re barely keeping your head above water.
Ha, and I better come back and read this tomorrow when I’m sure there will be meltdowns left and right. 🙂
