Double Stroller :: Do you have one you LOVE???

Hi all!

I’m going to start out the week with a question:  Do you have any stellar recommendations for a double stroller?

Here’s what I’m thinking:

1.  As much as I LOVE my BOB, I don’t think a Double BOB is going to be the best fit for San Francisco.  We do a LOT of walking and there are a LOT of people on the sidewalks so the thought of pushing around a double wide freaks me out.  But if you love your double BOB, please tell me all about how you deal with its width.

2.  I’ve seen the Baby Jogger City Select around San Francisco and I think it looks really slick.  I’ve also heard great things about it…anyone have one of those???

3.  Pricing ::  since this is one of the few items we plan on adding to our collection (other than a few clothing items if bean ends up being a boy…I don’t think he’d be too happy with all of Abby’s tutus and tights), we aren’t opposed to buying something nice if it’s worth it.  Not $1,000 nice, but $400-$700 nice.

Haha, and those are really my only thoughts.

Please tell me which strollers you love…which ones your friends love…which ones you wish you had…etc…we’re open to all suggestions!

Tried both and stuck with the BOB!!! The city one was impossible to turn with Jackson in it, but other friends I have love it. I love the bob myself and have not had any issues with the width of it =-)

I’m really glad you told me that the city select is hard to turn…that is NOT a feature I want to mess around with! Haha…with all the walking we do, we need it to be as flexible as possible. That’s why I LOVE my single BOB…it’s just so easy to maneuver it in any direction! Great feedback, thanks Stephanie!

Mina at Mini Picollini did a review of double strollers over a week. It might help.

    Good luck!

Oh cool – I’ll check it out, thanks!!

    • Thanks for sharing the link to my “Double Stroller Week”! We ended up deciding to get the Bugaboo Donkey for our very urban lifestyle. We considered the City Select but I am short and felt like I had trouble connecting with the child sitting “below”. But it has a good price and I’m told that they used to sell like crazy here in Stockholm (Sweden) before the Bugaboo Donkey arrived. I also hear great things about the City Mini Double which is apparently not too wide, and very easy to handle. Good luck!!

i know i already commented on your facebook page, but i used to walk from ghiradelli square area to tom’s office and back with the double bob and didn’t have a problem with busy streets. people tend to get out of the way! 🙂 plus, it is not as wide as it seems.

Sarah, that’s great to hear. For some reason, I just have it in my head that the Double BOB is 10 feet wide :). I feel like such a spaz already with a single stroller that I can’t even imagine pushing something around that’s bigger. But it’s very reassuring to hear that it’s not as wide as it seems…maybe a Double BOB will be in our future after all…time will tell! 🙂

I have the city select and love it. I have an almost 4 yr old and a 20m old. We’ve had it for almost 2 years and it is and was great. I love that you can use it as a single too. I leave the older one at home and take the little one out for a jog. I don’t have any problem turning it but my boys are little guys. They both weigh about 30lbs…so 60 total. I love the flexibility to be able to turn them facing or outward. I can also lay them both back for naps (when they were younger).

Hi Cathy – Thank you so much for your thoughts on the City Select. It’s great to hear that you haven’t had a hard time turning it…that’s my biggest concern with that stroller. I appreciate your feedback!

Hi! I am so curious, what did you guys choose? I just went to look at the double bob today (due with baby #2 in dec) and was surprised how easy it seemed. The only part I found difficult/cumbersome was lifting after folding it, it’ll be kept in our car since we live in an apt in LA. Congrats on your third pregnancy!!! I just discovered the blog about a month ago and love going thru all these older posts.

Hi Jen! First of all, apologies for my extremely slow response! Secondly, we ended up going with the Double Bob and we absolutely love it. That being said, we rarely put ours in the car. Since we moved into a bigger place, I’m able to roll it into the garage and leave it there without having to fold it or anything. My husband took the girls for a run this weekend and he had to put the stroller in the car…in order to do so, he had to take the front wheel off (and we have a Lexus small size SUV). Not ideal, that’s for sure. So I honestly don’t know what I’d recommend for you guys! Such a hard decision! Which other strollers are you looking at?

Hi! Sorry to take so long to respond to YOU! I’m now 36 weeks pregnant and was bitch slapped earlier this week with the stomach flu. It was awesome. Thanks so much for your feedback on the stroller. We want the bob double really badly but don’t think it’s going to work out for our apt lifestyle and having to lift it in and out of the car multiple times a day. I actually watched this grown man on youtube break down the stroller then struggle to put it in the trunk, with his wife shouting behind the camera, “You’re gonna need a friend to help you put it in your car!” I decided then and there that this wasn’t going to be the way to go. At least not until we move to a place with a garage. We are looking at the Valco Baby Zee Two, which was recommended to us by a couple people for it’s versatility and light weight. Apparently it’s great for long walks which is what we love. Love the blog! Hope you continue to feel good in the pregnancy and that the morning sickness is long gone!

Hi Jen! No problem whatsoever – I completely understand!!! 🙂 Oh man, and I was sick with my first pregnancy right at the end…it was AWFUL so I feel for you. I hope you’re feeling a lot better! And it sounds like you guys made the right choice with strollers. The double BOB is a beast and I truly feel like it would have been a pain for you guys. You’ll love getting one when you have more space, I can promise you that! Good luck with everything and enjoy your new little one!!! 🙂
