a Child Size Rocking Chair

A long, long, long time ago (back when I turned 1), my grandma (Gram) gave me a rocking chair.  As a matter of fact, each one of my cousins got a rocking chair when they turned 1…it was the tradition.

The rocking chair was the perfect size. Small enough for a 1 year old to navigate and big enough for a 4-5 year old to sit in as well.  My brother and I used to sit in our chairs all the time…as you can see here, we were master chess players at a very young age:

My parents, who are wonderful at keeping family heirlooms (and family junk…including “art” created by a 5 year old version of myself), have held onto our rocking chairs all these years.

Guess who discovered them recently? That’s right, the one and only Abigail.

It only took her a couple tries to master climbing into the chair, turning around to sit on her bottom, and rock the chair back and forth.  She LOVES it.

So with my parents upcoming move back to Atlanta (where they’ll be taking the rocking chairs so the grand-kids can play with them when they visit), we decided it was time to find Abigail her very own child size rocking chair.

I did one quick search on Etsy and I could barely believe my eyes when I saw the SAME EXACT rocking chair listed for sale.  I didn’t even hesitate…I purchased the chair from a shop called Cascade Thieves and within 4 days, the rocking chair showed up at our door.

The best part was that it just so happened to show up when Kiki & Gappy were dropping some food off at our apartment so they were able to witness the unveiling (and take pictures!).

I think we have a very happy rocking chair owner…

Very cute! Now you just need a plaque like yours and it would totally match. I also love the fact that you can still fit in your rocking chair (as I saw last week.)

    🙂

hahaha…even KiKi can get her hips in between the arms of the rocking chair…very sturdy rockers 🙂 🙂
So fun to see Abby loving her rocker!

  3. I love this story! Another fun part is the joy your discovery brought the shop owners! A rocking chair finds it’s new home:) Lovely.

    Hi Ali,

This is my first comment even though I stalk your blog daily. I wish my first comment was for less selfish reasons

I have been searching for a good child sized rocking chair and yours seems like one. The etsy you linked doesn’t seem to have any more. Do you mind providing additional details like brand or any descriptors that may help me find one?

    Thank you in anticipation!

Ps. I have enjoyed following Abi’s journey and look forward to every post!

      Hi!!

Thanks for your comment and for reading my blog! 🙂 You made my morning!

Unfortunately, I don’t know what the brand of the rocking chair is. I just looked up “Vintage Kids Rocking Chair” on Google (and looked at “Images”) and I found some cool rocking chairs, but not any that look exactly the same. There are some similar ones though! Since I got mine 27 years ago, I’m pretty sure this is just an old style chair…and the people I purchased Abby’s from found it and refurbished it.

I’m so sorry I don’t have more info and that I’m not being more helpful!

I hope you can find a very, very similar chair!!!

Thanks Ali. I think I actually found the information I was looking for. It seems your chair is the Jenny Lind Angel Line child rocking chair. They also manufacture an adult version. I’ about to place my order! Thanks again.

I love Abi’s style by the way.
