Asparagus (Part 1: Recipe & Prep)

After allowing Abigail to indulge in some delicious Sweet Potatoes last week, we decided to step up our game and introduce something a little more exotic: Asparagus

To be honest, the reason we were super excited to try asparagus is because Travis and I have always wondered…do babies have asparagus pee?  (and you may think we’re totally bizarre now, but I bet you’re curious too!)

We’ll report back on the answer to that question soon…

For now, here’s the recipe we used for Asparagus Puree:

Guess where I purchased our asparagus?  You got it – trusty Trader Joe’s:

Step 1: Snap off woody end of asparagus

Step 2: Chop asparagus into smaller pieces (if desired) and rinse

Step 3: Bring water to boil in a pot, place rinsed asparagus into steamer basket and steam until tender (took ~10 minutes for my asparagus bunch)

Step 4: Rinse asparagus under running water to stop cooking

Step 5: Puree asparagus in food processor until it’s reached the consistency you desire (according to the book, no additional liquids will be necessary – I agree – it’s watery enough all on its own)

Step 6: Experiment with (extremely skeptical) baby!

Stay tuned for Part 2: Testing (and the answer to our question about Asparagus Pee!)

Have fun and as always, let me know if you have any questions!
