Carrots (Part 1: Recipe & Prep)

We’re moving on from peas (which Abigail LOVED – good thing we have some extras in the freezer) and we’re going to explore the wonderful world of carrots.

The recipe is simple and the only ingredient you need is a bag of carrots (1 lb.) – as usual, I found some Organic Carrots at Trader Joe’s for less than $2.00:

Step 1: Peel the carrots and cut them into small pieces

Step 2: Place the pieces into a steamer pan (above) and steam with about an inch of water.  Steam until tender (took approximately 15 minutes for my carrots).

“Fork” Tender (a knife was closer to the stove for me)

Step 3: Place tender carrots into a blender (or in my case, my trusty Magic Bullet!) and puree. Add water if necessary to thin it out (I used 2 or 3 tablespoons)

Step 4:  Keep your eyes on your baby at all times to avoid this… 🙂

Step 5:  See what your baby thinks (once it has cooled enough!)

Stay tuned for Part 2: Testing.

I love this series! So excited to see you get into protein foods (although probably a little ways off..) That’s our next hurdle – not sure where to start: meat? tofu? egg yolk?

Awww I’m so glad you love it – I’m having a lot of fun with it (plus, it’s nice that I’ll always have my “recipes” online and organized for the future)! 🙂 Our pediatrician said we’ll be starting with proteins around 9 months, so we’re still two months away…but I have a feeling I might start with something like edamame. I feel like that’ll be a nice transition from veggies to proteins…hopefully!
