Rice Cereal

How would I would describe Abigail’s first introduction to solid foods?  That’s easy…

Entertainment on a spoon.

My goodness…from the facial expressions I didn’t even know she had to the unbelievable mess she can make (and the food she manages to get nice and stuck under her neck rolls), I have this feeling that solid foods are going to be quite the adventure.

We began our journey a couple days ago with Rice Cereal.  I used a recipe out of Cooking for Baby (a lovely gift from some of our friends who are expecting).  Check out how simple it is:

I literally purchased a bag of whole grain brown rice (under $3 – compare that to purchasing organic rice cereal at the store), pulled out the Magic Bullet, and ground the rice into a powder (which scared Abby half to death because it was so loud)

I simmered water on the stove and pulled out some freshly pumped milk…

Put the ground rice into the simmering water…

And viola!  Rice Cereal was born and Abby was ready to try it!

She doesn’t look totally convinced, does she?

And here’s a little look at how the experience went…

OK Mommy…now I’m excited! Give it to me!

So this is how I use a spoon?

I don’t even know how to make a caption for this one…

This is the “behind the scenes” look – she’s hanging on for dear life!

Hmmm…I’m not so sure about this Mom

Is this what I’m supposed to wash it down with???

Much better! This stuff is GOOD!

OK Mommy, I’m ready for more!

And for fun, here’s a little video:

Overall, I think our first day on Rice Cereal was a success!  We’re now on Day 3 and Abigail really seems to be enjoying the new taste and texture.

Oh, and what about the leftovers!?!  I stored it in the fridge and made sure to note on our whiteboard when I put it in (you can refrigerate it for 3 days or freeze it for up to 3 months):

Don’t judge my penmanship (or lack thereof)…it’s not a strong point of mine!

Up next: Oatmeal
